Staying active while coworking!

In the era of technology, many of us spend the majority of our day sitting at a desk, behind a computer screen or on the phone. With the average day job being eight hours long, that's a staggering amount of time we spend without any physical activity.

 

People must realize that being sedentary is a dangerous lifestyle choice. Research shows us that leading a sedentary lifestyle will lead to lower quality of life and make you prone to diseases. The office space is a huge enabler for this trend to continue. We need to think creatively about how we can make our office spaces more active! In order to do that, we need to open our minds to some new and innovative ideas such as:

  1. The half-hour challenge.
    Use your cell phone to set an alarm for every 30 minutes. Once it goes off, you will have to complete a two-minute physical activity challenge in your office space. Maybe just do an exercise while sitting at your desk. Or do a set of twenty push-ups. The smallest things make a massive difference in the long run.
     

  2. Take an active lunch break. 
    No matter how long you have for your lunch break, plan to spend the first half of it walking outside or in the building. The second half of your lunch break can be spent eating.
     

  3. Optimize your office chair correctly. 
    Make sure to have your chair at the correct height for your desk and sit upright at the right angle to avoid straining the back and shoulders.
     

  4. Create a standing work environment. 
    You can either exchange your sitting desk with a standing desk or save some money and find a way to heighten your work place utilizing boxes or something else to put your computer on top of.

 

Besides all of the above, you can re-engineer your desk into many other options such as a treadmill or bicycle desk or a moving desk and opt for a fitness tracker to count your steps and measure your water intake – these are expensive solutions but they will definitely be effective.
